Blankenship hopes for plea in Jackson case

Posted: Saturday, September 29, 2012 7:00 am

Commonwealth Attorney Mark Blankenship said Friday that he intends to intensify efforts to reach a plea bargain agreement in the case of Murray State University basketball player Zaveral “Zay” Jackson starting next week in large part because he is concerned that a Calloway County jury pool could be affected by comments about the case through social media.

Jackson, 20, a native of Hammond, La. now living in Murray, is charged with using his car to strike two people Sept. 9 in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter in Murray. Jackson, expected to be a starting guard for the Racers this season, is charged with assault 2nd degree.
