Preparations are underway at the Murray-Calloway County Parks for the annual “Festival of Lights – Christmas In the Park” that begins Nov. 25 in Central Park. Once open, the lights are turned on from 5:30-10 p.m. each evening through Christmas. The event is a fundraiser for Need Line and the parks with donations of canned goods or money requested, but not mandatory, for admission. Park employee Aaron Zetterberg is pictured checking the lights on one of the displays on Tuesday before moving it outside. The Festival of Lights features more than 750,000 lights in displays sponsored by area businesses and civic organizations. Event setup takes parks employees over a month of preparation, according to Parks Director Tab Brockman, who added that a handful of light displays are still available for sponsorship for 2011.
