With small parts in an upcoming Ben Stiller/Eddie Murphy comedy and a “One Life to Live” episode airing next week, former Murray State University football player Paul Hickert says he is trying to build a foundation for a successful acting career.

Hickert, 45, is originally from Clearwater, Fla. and now lives in New York City. He was a kicker for the MSU football team from 1984 to 1987. He played under head coach Frank Beamer for three years, and after Beamer left for Virginia Tech, former defensive coordinator Mike Mahoney came back from the University of Kansas to be head coach during Hickert’s senior year.
