Ky. School Boards Insurance Trust to end in June

Posted: Monday, January 28, 2013 8:43 am

In a time where funding education continues to get more difficult, 25 school superintendents from throughout western Kentucky learned that the mountain was getting higher last week.

In a meeting of the West Kentucky Co-Op in Eddyville, the superintendents were told that the Kentucky School Boards Insurance Trust is going out of business effective June 30. This means 174 districts that have been using this entity will not only have to go elsewhere for insurance policies covering, among other things, workers compensation, but they also are going to be on the hook for past insurance claims, with a price tag of $60 million.
