Murray High speech team wins regionals

MURRAY – The Murray High School Speech Team won the regional championship at the Kentucky High School Speech League (KHSSL) Murray Regional Speech Tournament. Murray High won first place overall with 139 sweepstakes points. Marshall County came in second with 79 points and Calloway finished third with 70 points. Murray High qualified 42 entries for the KHSSL State Tournament which will take place March 8-10 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. This is the third year in a row that Murray High Speech has won the regional tournament.

Murray High students won awards in the following categories: Declamation Regional Champion - Mary Browder Howell; Dramatic Interpretation Regional Champion - Phoebe Shown; Duo Interpretation Regional Champion - Cutrubes/Heeke; Extemporaneous Speaking Regional Champion - Kyra Shutt/Runner-up - Marina Smart; Humorous interpretation Regional Champion - Chellam Antony/Runner-up - Patrick Jones; Impromptu Speaking Regional Champion - Amy Kobraei/Runner-up - Marina Smart; Improv Duo Regional Champion - Dennis/Shown; Informative Speaking Runner-up - Amy Kobraei; Oratory Runner-up - Embrey Flener;  Poetry Runner-up - Abby Dawson; Program Oral Interpretation Regional Champion - Mia Todd/Runner-up - Cookie Cutrubes; Storytelling Regional Champion - Kat Jenkins/Runner-up - Amy Kobraei
