A Murray State University student died Thursday morning after falling from the Price Doyle Fine Arts Building.
Mark Welch, community relations director with the Office of the President, said the student was identified as Jacob Derting, 20, of Bardstown. He fell to his death from the seventh floor on the west side of the building at approximately 9:25 a.m., Welch said. He said the body was found in the area that is sometimes called the “rock garden or “Zen garden,” which is situated between the Price Doyle building, the Old Fine Arts Building and Lovett Auditorium. Several people witnessed the fall, and an MSU police officer was the first to arrive on the scene after several 911 calls were made to law enforcement, he said.
