A vehicle-pedestrian accident that occurred in the parking lot at the southwest corner of Sycamore and South 12th streets Tuesday night resulted in the death of Janice Phelps, 56, of Murray.
Calloway County Coroner Rick Harris said he pronounced Phelps’ death at approximately 7:34 p.m. Tuesday in the emergency room at Murray-Calloway County Hospital. Phelps was taken to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville Wednesday morning, and Harris said the preliminary autopsy results showed that Phelps likely died of multiple blunt force trauma to the torso and head. It will be several weeks before the autopsy results are official.
According to a press release from Sgt. Scott Purcell with the Murray Police Department, Ethan Boley, 21, of Elkton, was pulling away from Family Video in a 2002 GMC pickup truck and turned down the center aisle of the parking lot. Phelps was walking toward the stores when she was struck by Boley’s truck.
Police were called to the scene at approximately 6:31 p.m. Purcell and Officer David Howe are continuing the investigation at this time.
