Beverly Dene Thorn Johnson

Beverly Dene Thorn Johnson, 55, of Alexandria, Kentucky, formerly of Murray, Kentucky, died Thursday, April 29, 2016.

She was a retired employee of the Kentucky Department of Community Based Services in Covington, Kentucky.  She was a member of Summit Church of Christ in  Cold Spring, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lee Thorn and Wanza Edwards Thorn and a brother, Joel “Bubba” Thorn.

Beverly is survived by her husband, Barry and daughter, Megan Ann Johnson, both of Alexandria; sister-in-law, Brenda Thorn; cousins, Janeen Burkeen and Kathran Newsom and three nephews, Chris, Chad and Matthew, all of Murray. 

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 7 p.m. at Alexandria Funeral Home, Alexandria. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 3, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Stray Animal Adoption Program, 58 Martha Layne Collins Blvd., Cold Spring, KY 41076.

Anna Mae Nance

Anna Mae Nance, 89, of Murray, Kentucky, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Murray-Calloway County Hospital. 

She was born in Murray, Kentucky, on Oct. 12, 1926 to Bob Hubbs and Helen Hargrove Hubbs.

She retired from the Murray City School System as a cafeteria worker and cook. She was a member of West Fork Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Thomas and Ladeen Spann. 

Mrs. Nance is survived by her husband Shirley Lee Nance of Murray, to whom she married on Sept. 29, 1945 in Murray; one daughter, Elizabeth Smith and husband Terry of Murray; one son, Steven Nance of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Jimmie Norsworthy of Mayfield; one brother, William Hubbs of Murray; one grandchild, Brian Smith and wife Erin of Murray and one great-grandchild, Dillon Smith of Murray.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 30, 2016 at noon at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Wayne Carter and Randy Kuykendall officiating. Burial will follow in Story’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will  Saturday, April 30, 2016 10 a.m. until service hour at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Ann Hays

Elizabeth Ann Hays, 92, of Murray, Kentucky, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Brookdale Murray.

She was born in Murray, Kentucky, on Jan. 11, 1924 to Hermon O. Barber and Ava Allbritten Barber. She retired from Murray-Calloway County Hospital as a respiratory therapist and was a member of University Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Hays; one son, Keith Hays; two sisters, Rachel Gibbs and Millie Eberle and one grandson, Eric Hughes.

Mrs. Hays is survived by three daughters, Nancy Carol Redden and husband Ric of Versailles, Shirley Ann Hughes of Murray and Mary Beth Burkeen and husband Gary of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; one son, Jim Hays and wife Janice of Murray; daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Hays of Murray; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Charley Bazzell and Jody Burkeen officiating. Burial will follow in Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 5–8 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
