Sara C. Brooks
Sara C. Brooks, 76, of Cadiz, Ky., died at 10:35 p.m. Sunday, August 8, 2010 at her home.
She was a school teacher for 31 years after retiring from Rockwood School District in St. Louis, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Mamie Therrell Calhoun.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Brooks of Cadiz, Ky; mother-in-law, Catheryn Brooks of Independence, Mo.; son, Douglas Brooks and wife, Jane of Washington, Mo; brother-in-laws Mel Brooks of Somerset, Ky and Clayton Brooks and wife Marty of Conover, NC; and grandchildren, Nicholas Starke of Des Moines, Iowa, Vanessa Starke of Columbia, Mo., Russell Brooks and Ryan Brooks both of Washington, Mo.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 12, at the Cadiz Christian Church, Dr. Tom Martin will officiate. Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, August 11 from 5-8 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home and again Thursday, August 12, from 9-10 a.m. at the church. Maxine Houston, 80, of Murray, died at 9:07 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Hickory Woods Retirement Center.

Houston was a homemaker and attended Murray Training School. She was a member of the Locust Grove Baptist Church. Houston was also a member of the adult womens' sunday school class and the W.M.U. She was born Dec. 22, 1929 in Calloway Co. She had volunteered at Need Line for over 10 years and was a very avid MSU basketball and St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Survivors include her daughter, Annette Baccus (Lindsey) of Cadiz, Ky., two sons, Phil Houston and his wife, Lisa, of Springfield, Tenn., Rex Houston of Murray; two grandchildren, April Haneline Tybor of Denver, Co., and Amanda Haneline Hopper of Nashville, Tenn., one great grandchild, Chloe Layne Hopper of Nashville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Houston; parents, Walter and Estell Evans Elkins, two sisters, Rozzella Williams, and Shirley Grey Elkins.
Barbara Compton Spangler
Barbara Compton Spangler, age 67, of Manassas, died August 5, 2010 at the Prince William Hospital.
Born Feb. 20, 1943 in Brentsville, Virginia, she was the daughter of Egbert and Eura Hale Compton. On April 29th, 1962 in Greenwich, Va., she married Kenneth W. Spangler, Jr., who survives.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and James Compton. Surviving, besides her husband of 48 years, are one son, Kenneth W. Spangler, III and his wife, Sharon of Broad Run; two daughters, Darlene Motter and her husband, Neil of Dade City, Fla. and Theresa Addison of North Carolina; two sisters, Cathaolene Dahl and her husband, Carl of Brooksville, Fla. and Brenda Rowland and her husband, Joel of Murray, Ky.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held today, Tuesday, August 10 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Manassas, with Rev. Gene Wells officiating. Private interment will take place in Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, Va., at a later date. Funeral services for John Allen, 70, of Hazel, will be held at a later date in Indianapolis, Ind. and Tempe, Ariz.

He is survived by his son, Mark Allen and wife Regina of Hazel; one daughter, Michelle McKnight of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Cole G.O. Allen and Jessica C.V. Allen, both of Hazel, and Steven J. McKnight and wife Taysha of Flagstaff, Ariz.
Paul E. Attebury
Funeral services for Paul E. Attebury will be at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, August 10 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home in Paducah with Rev. Steve Ray officiating.

Attebury, 83, of Sturgis, Ky., formerly of Paducah, died at 12:17 p.m. .Sunday at Lucy Smith King Care Center in Henderson, Ky. He was retired from the Earl C. Clement Job Corp Center in Morganfield, Ky.
He served in the U.S. Army and the Marine Corp. He is survived by his wife, Jennie Ford Attebury, of Sturgis; one daughter, Sheree L. Sheffer of Morganfield, Ky.; sisters Evelyn Reitdorf of Murray, and Lucille Blankenship of Reidland, Ky. : one brother, Bud Attebury of Marion, Ill., four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Jessie Garvey Attebury and two brothers.
Colleen Moore, 82 years young, of Murray, Ky., passed away Saturday, August 7, 2010 following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Ms. Moore was an active member of the Glendale Road Church of Christ. Upon retiring from Bell South after 34 years, Ms. Moore lived a full life and remained committed to the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was very involved in her community, was a member of the senior friends in Mayfield, Ky., and was a Prime Life Member of the Murray Calloway Co. Hospital.
She enjoyed hanging out with her friends, attended ball games, political events and exercise class, and could always be spotted frequently at the local Dairy Queen.
As a breast cancer survivor Ms. Moore faithfully participated in Murray Calloway County's Relay for Life event.
Colleen Moore was deeply loved by all who knew her, and she will be sorely missed.
Ms. Moore is survived by one brother, Bobby G. Moore of Paducah, Ky., two nieces, Jean E. Embry and Kathy Hayes both of Paducah, Ky., nephew Michael Moore also of Paducah, Ky., also three great nieces and two great nephews survive.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert C. and Maude M. Tucker Moore.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home, John Dale and Jason Hart will officiate, and burial will be in the Murray City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, August 10, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
