The Lady Racers had five players score in double digits to steal an 82-72 victory over the heavily-favored UT-Martin Skyhawks at the Elam Center on Jan. 5.
Led by senior guard Mariah Robinson's 26 points, the Racers held a tight 39-38 lead at the half, but went up by as much as 12 with 4 minutes to play and never relinquished control back to the Skyhawks.
Junior Skyhawk guards Heather Butler (19 points) and Jasmine Newsome (25 points) continued to rain havoc on defenses, scoring a combined 44 points against the Racers.
However, it was the strong rebounding (44-41) and a large advantage in FT attempts (39-16) that changed the complexion of the game and proved pivotal for the Racer victory.
Freshman forward Bianca Babic, who changed positions not two days ago, scored 10 points off the bench for the Racers (2-9, 5-6 FTs), while freshman guard Erica Sisk chipped in a much needed 16 points and four rebounds.
Sophomore guard Keiona Kirby had 12 points and senior guard Tessa Elkins had 16 points.
Junior forward Jessica Winfrey led the Racers with eight rebounds.
